Torsional Damper AND crankshaft seal?

Going to be replacing the harmonic balancer/torsional damper this weekend, and as I was reading the factory service manual, it coupled the balancer replacement with the front crankshaft seal... Is it necessary to change this front seal out when replacing the damper?
Any other tips on this job? Do I have to remove timing cover?
While I have everything out, should I do anything else? (currently planing on doing radiator, water pump, fan clutch, and some scrubbing/cleaning of the block)

It should be replaced if it is leaking at all. To replace the front crankshaft seal, it is a good idea to remove the timing cover so as not to bend the $%^&^ out of it when installing the seal.

No leaks, I was just wondering if there was a reason the two were listed in tandem in the service manual –*as if removing the balancer would damage the seal, or a if a worn out balancer causes the seal to go.
