So, I’m going to get a 6.2 that is mated to a th400. I don’t want the th400. Any chance the torque converter is the same between the 700r4 and TH400? Did they ever offer a lockup converter in the 400? I guess I’ll be able to tell easily when I get there if there are any wires running to the transmission. But even it there is, are the input shaft, stator shaft and pump splines the same between the two?

Thanks
Ben

Ok that’s what I thought but wanted to check. I’m not even buying the 400 so I won’t be scrapping it. I shouldn’t even be buying anything but can pass up this deal on the motor.

1981 GMC 1/2T 4x2 with the 6.2 diesel and 2.42 gears with the 700R4.
The 700R4 died a miserable death so went to a 400 Turbo.
The mileage did not change.
I got 29.2 mpg with the 400 with the wind blowing at my tail both ways.
Hard to beat that.

I have a 78 k10 I put a 6.2 in it and an R4 in it has 3.73 gears and torque converter lockup. The diesel bolts to the R4 just fine. The governor in trans is different, mine shift soon because of it. and not all R4s are built as tough. But overall I like it mine.
