I have a 1990 3/4 ton Burb with barely 57,000 miles
But it's a 3 speed
Needs paint
All the weather stripping needs replacing

Or do I look for a newer 3/4 ton Burb???

Late 90's burb is a better overall deal, newer seals, better insulation, less noise, smoother ride. The down side is that it is not a square. I think it all depends if you want a square 3/4 burb or a just a 3/4 burb. Paint, seals, and transmission can be fixed. I went for 91 3/4 burb to get as close as possible to newer gen while still being a square. Would not buy one without a 4 speed.

I'd personally rather drive a square over anything newer

whatever you do, stay full-size. don't downgrade to a compact/mid-size truck or SUV. the full-szie trucks/SUVs ride sooo much better.

Exactly which is why I prefer to stay with the one that I know the issues already. If she's gutless, give her some balls :)

Don't!

I wouldn't do it. I totaled my truck a few years ago soon after coming into some life insurance money, and I made the foolish decision to buy a brand new 2013 Chevrolet Silverado W/T Extended Cab with a Long Bed. It was a great truck and it was pretty neat having a new vehicle but I tired of it after a couple of years. I sold it about a month ago with 41K on it and bought a 76 GMC! :) I'm still working out the bugs (see post titled "Power Brakes Gradually Locking Up") but I'm still happier knowing I have a more attractive truck that is fun to drive!
I realize you're not looking to buy a brand-new vehicle, and I personally feel like a manual transmission (especially on the column) is an unnecessary pain in the ass and a worthy reason to get another truck, but I thought our situations may be somewhat similar.
Just my two cents. Good luck!

Why not go to a 4L80 with a stand alone control and lower gears?
