Of course the guy with the lopey cam is going to get the attention. That's my point. Rather than SOUND badass and still able to be beat, and made a fool of, I'd rather have Mild Sound, no attention, not expected to be fast and take their money. Some aren't aware, you can take a lopey cam, dial it in by advancing or retarding it the cam timing, which moves your power band range, but you can hide the lope to where it's not nearly as profound. That's what guys in sleepers do. But then you need to build and acquire all the other adders around that dialed in cam, just as if you were going to do with the cam straight up. This could involve a higher stall converter, a lower gear ratio, a single plane intake vs a dual plane and even different carb jetting. I really wish I had paid a bit more attention to that when younger. I think I'd have won more money. I won more than I lost but I think I could have won more.

The l79 cam in my truck has a lope to it, but with the cam advanced and it being advanced at the distributor also, its not at radical as straight up and retarded XD. It still lopes harder than anything else in the HS parking lot tho. You can feel the pulsations very easily from close to anywhere.

L79 cam seems to be the go to cam for high school rides. Lol that's what mine had in it. Milled 882 heads, 12cc pistons, worked QJet, Edelbrock intake, headers, 2500 stall in the TH350, and 3.08 gears. Would surprise many a Mustang and Camaro, and I was one of only a few in the parking lot who had actually seen their crankshaft. Funny how the poor little rich kid with the back new LT1 Camaro wants to talk trash about your truck before and after you beat him, but is suddenly your best friend when he wants to make it faster.

 Ohh yes. If you know what you're doing and have tools, you have all the friends in the world. But, I tolerated that ****. That's how I got all of my trans biz. Word of mouth. I only allowed a select few to come around though and they ended up being considered friends. I'd pick up trans cores and drop off completed transmissions on Friday and Saturday nights where we'd meet to race. Sold a few outright too. Once people know you build transmissions, if they want them out of their way, they'll give them to you. Of course that hasn't been the case for many years since scrap pays so well. Sad seeing all the trans cores that go to the scrapper. If the scrap yard wasn't so damn greedy, I'd buy some direct from him. He pays $8-$10 for a transmission, and I offered $20, they want $40. :flipthebird:

lol, thats close to mine. Mines l79 cam, 10:1 flattops, 441 heads, worked over qjet, gm intake. And since it was put in my truck it has manifolds, but befor my truck it had headers and i have headers for my truck.

Gas, Grass or Ass, I did nothing for FREE !!! Of course, sub beer for grass cuz by that time, I'd outgrown doing the herb thing. Although, sure thinking about going back to it. It's alot cheaper than Dr visits and pharmacy meds.

what's the specs on the l79 cams?

Not sure on the exact specs, but consider it the 300hp 327 Vette Cam from back in the 60's. Alot of people like to run the 30/30 Duntov 302 Cam too in small blocks. Not very streetable though. But who cares. You guys would prolly **** if see the specs on the cam I had in my daily drivers. And I sat in stop and go Los Angeles traffic. Running 220-240 degrees with e fans running and a 4 core radiator.

It's the old 327 , 350 hp. cam .222/.222 dur. , .447/.447 lift , 114 lsa.

I built a 350 with that cam from speedpro with 186 heads 9.5 to 1 and it was pretty bad ass , but still no drag car idle , it was a pretty mild lope in a 350.

It had a broad power range which some people like , good in a 350 , 4x4 set up ,with gear's

I wasn't sure if it was 300hp or 350hp just knew it was the hipo 327 cam. If those specs are correct, I think that .222 duration is @.050, cuz it seems I remember it to be about a 280 advertised duration. I once ran an Isky 280 Mega Cam for awhile, and I remember it was a bit similar to this cam but IIRC had a .485 lift.

I thought about runnign the duntov 30/30 in the engine im building, but the rpm range wouldnt work for my application, and i didnt want to adjust valves often.

That's why most don't consider it a streetable cam. But, you can also find it in a hydraulic form too. It's a fairly radical cam.
