This is probably a bad idea, but I'm too cheap to pay for a tow.

So as a few of you may know, the 4L60E in my '98 Busurban did what 4L60E's do best and blew up.

This has put me in a situation where I'm exclusively driving 'Ol Yeller day to day.

If I want to fix the Burb, I need to get it 20 miles to the Trade School I'm currently going to. Since the truck has no gears whatsoever (the front pump failed) I can either spend $400 on a tow (towing rates around here are outrageous) or use 'Ol Yeller to tow the truck on a dolley.

If you aren't up to speed with the current state of 'Ol Yeller, well she's got a good running recently rebuilt 250 I6, a half screwed Saginaw 3spd, (it's got a bit of gear rattle in 2nd gear) a 12bolt rear end with a 3:55 posi, and a bumper mounted hitch.

Am I stupid, or do you think the truck is up to the task?

Pull the rear shaft and let her rip.

If going down hill your laughing. Going up hill have a buddy follow with hazards on.

400 bucks for 20 miles is crazy. I could of got it for free if your in my neighborhood cause I'm always fixing buddies tow truck. Always sounds bad I'm there when he needs me.

Well this answer probably isn't going to go over well, but I bet your burb is too wide for a car dolly. If it's too wide I'd get a buddy you trust and a rope leave the burb running and both of you stay on your cell phones.

if ur worried about the towed vehicle hitting you, strap a tire to the tail gate and run. If blue lights come one for some reason, don't stop until you get to your destination.

Your right. Totally missed that. That front won't fit on a dolly. Unless you got a older dollies.

You could do it backwards.

Or like @Ricko1966 said get a good buddy and buy a nice new kinetic tow rope and drag it there and then you also got your self a nice rope to boot.

Looks it would be tight make sure the bottoms of the doors or rockers won't hit anyithing in turns.

Okay, I actually have towed the Burb with 'Ol Yeller before, but only two miles for a practical joke.

I was towing 'Ol Yeller with the Burb back from Colorado, and two miles from home I swapped them around.

I wish I got a picture of my fathers face when I pulled into the driveway. I had been joking that if the Burb broke down, 'Ol Yeller was my backup plan. I ended up playing out the joke a little longer saying that the motor blew up somewhere near Kansas City, and that I had gone through about 27 quarts of oil (this was before I put the new engine in). I eventually told him the truth.

So are thinking of trailering it or in a dolly? My byrb wouldn't fit on the dolly we were using I had to trailer mine. My 75 wouldn't fit the dolly or the trailer had to pull it on a tow bar. I noticed your comment about Kansas City. Are you close I've still got the tow bar for my 75k. Nevermind, that was stupid I have no way of knowing if my tow bar would work on your rig.

I've looked at several tow dollies on the internet widths from 75 inches thru 80.5 inches. You need to measure what ever dolly you plan on using. And I've seen damage done by too tight of fit in a turn ,so I make very wide turns.
