Checked my spare knobs but they don't have the metal in the slot like the Alpine.

If you or anyone chooses to cut the dash metal, don't cut the complete rectangle. From the center hole, cut across the top on each side as wide as needed. From the center hole cut across the bottom each way. Then bend the two sides back into the dash.

Now you will have the bigger rectangle hole needed for a CD player or other DIN radio. If you decide to reinstall the original radio the dash metal is very easy to fix.

I'll wait to cut. MP3's are old now. I like the new one that senses what's in your mind and automatically plays it for you.

Thinking hard about cutting my dash for a CD player. I have a couple laying around from various cars. So it wouldn’t cost me anything. And yes I still have and listen to cd. I never jumped on board wit the mp3 stuff. On top of that, the knob on my alpine broke a while back so now it looks bad. And I know that if I cut it right, I can bend the tabs back and it will be repairable later if I decide to do that. I’ll never sell the truck so I’m not concerned about loss of value. So tell me what you think and why.

Mines cut, I don't loose any sleep over it( I don't have a show truck). I like being able to throw and old radio in I have or buy a cheap one. That said, if it was my choice I wouldn't do it (bought it like this). I'd buy a modern digital Bluetooth one and play from my phone, which I rarely do in modern vehicles but in that case...

X2! Never say Never! You say you'll never sell thee truck but life changes can happen. At least by doing it like Turbo4whl describes you can return it to original a WHOLE LOT easier.

One of the retrosound type radios is 40-45x4 rms. Nice if you want to go without an amp.
