Hello,
I am currently having and issue with my rear turn signals and brake lights. I have running lights in the back but nothing else. I have tested the fuse and it is fine. The front turn signals work just like they should. I have tested the wires and the sockets. I get intermittent voltage and am not sure what to do. It is a 1980 k10 3/4 ton. 350 motor 4x4 automatic with a turbo 400. Thank you for your help.

This is so common, type no turn signals,no brake lights into the search bar. This gets covered once a week plenty of info on it.

Wires run from back lights to turn signal switch. The turn signal switch provides power from one of three separate wires depending on what is going on- white for brake, purple for turn signal, and brown for hazards. If none of those work- your problem could be the dark green (right back) & yellow (left back) wires being broke , disconnected, bad connection or the turn signal switch. Search and you will find a lot of information on this. see attachment of turn signal switch.

I was installing my tie downs and discovered another ground inside the fender area. In light of all the mud, snow and rain that gets tossed there, it's amazing anything using that ground would work.

So upon further inspection, I have found that I do not have power from the front to the rear. I have checked fuses, clock spring, hazards, High/Low switch, both relays. I believe it is the wires coming out of the fuse block for the lights in the back. It dosent explain why I do not have brake lighs though.

Follow up thought, would the license plate light make a difference? I found it while looking at how the wire harness was routed.

Use the search engine, read about this.Brake and turn share a common wire from the turnsignal switch back. If you have front turn signals but no rear signal and no rear brake lights it has something to do with the wires from the switch to the rear,or the switch itself. There's lots of troubleshooting written about this already.

Check for power at the white wire at the turnsignal switch while pushing the brake pedal. If you have power, check the green and yellow wire while pushing the brake. If you have power there, move on.

Find the tail light connector on the engine side of the firewall connector. Once again, push the brake, check for power on the green and yellow. There will be 2 green wires, one is a light green (reverse lights) you want the dark green. If you have power there, the problem is somewhere between the firewall connector and the taillights.

Look at the wiring behind the bumper, if anyone has ever screwed around with a trailer harness that’s the place to start looking.

I had a Similar issue with my Suburban and found the light green wire controlled the brake, signal and hazard lights on that end. It was an open in the wire I found, oddly it was repaired before. You may have the same problem.

I had a similar experience. Right brake light would work intermittently. I have tilt wheel. In the up position, the brake light would work. Pull the steering wheel down and the right brake light would not work. Replaced the turn signal switch, problem solved.

This is why using the search function was suggested, all of the pertinent information is already on the forum, where to look, what to clean, what needs replacing, etc.
