Since it has a center locking diff (in the t-case) it just wont pull in regular high. I remember now. My nephew had a grand cherokee with the front d-shaft took out and when he'd put it in park it wouldnt stay, it rooled over a hill once lol because it needed that front shaft to lock in park. Jeeps have locked diff t-case so he was able to drive it but had a different kind of problem than you'll run into.

I think the chrome cap is just called a dust cover.

The t-case has a diff in it, so without it in a 'loc' position, power will be sent to wherever there is the least amount of traction... just like a rear axle without posi. That full-time 4x4 nonsense is basically worthless, which is why GM quit using it. If the 203 t-case had a posi-type diff in it, it would have been far more useful.

You may have an easier time finding a used one, IIRC new caps aren't available anymore.

If you can't find the dust cover , you can just run hub's and leave them locked all the time or unlock them and run your truck in hi (lock) all the time Basicly if your t-case is not converted hub's do nothing for you .A full time front end is just like running with your hub's locked all the time.Either way with a non converted case the front end is spinning no matter if the hub's are locked or not , running with (hub's unlocked in hi-lock) or (hub's locked in just hi) , same , same , no real gain either way.
The sad part is the doug nash 1 piece conversion hub for the t-case I dont think is made anymore and they were the strongest. Mile marker still has a kit but it looks not so good.

If it were mine I would just change the tcase out and put manual hubs in it and be done with it.
