Swap a th400 for sm465 worth it?

i found an sm465 on CL for $200. Would it be worth the swap or just wait for a decent deal on an nv4500? I know the final ratio isn’t different, but figured the lower rotating mass would improve efficiency. Would it be much of a difference?

As long as you don't mind slow shifting, I'd go for the sm465. I really like the creeper gear, very useful for a truck that will be worked. Plus you would feel more hp and torque compared to the robbing th400. I believe the granny isn't the same length as the auto so you might have to find the correct drive shaft or make it up in the t case adaptor.

You wont find a "decent" deal on an nv4500, they are what they are. If it's cheap, it's likely broken, or missing parts. It might help you be a little bit ahead of the game by having the clutch pedal assembly but that's about it. If I were you I would just start accumulating parts for the nv4500 swap if your TH400 is working fine. That stuff's too heavy to be handling more than once.

The 92-93 GM nv4500 has the granny 1st like the sm465, that's what I'd like to find.

What output and adapter does that 465 use?

The 400/208 combo is the same length as the 465/208 combo. And so is the 700/208 combo actually.

I didn't know that, so if someone wanted to swap to a 350 from a 700r4, just get the appropriate adaptor and run existing driveshafts?
