Replacing tired booster. Will do MC and wheel
Cylinders at same time. Any recommends frm members re
Should I just go stock replacement on booster an MC or are there
Better options ?
It's an 86 C20 350/400 front disc rear drum.

If you change it to hydro boost brake booster, it will stop on a dime and give you change back.

I was considering this but have never driven with the system.
I've read that the pedal loses feel and is pretty firm after only little travel. What's your experience in comparison feel wise ? Thanks.

The pedal really doesn't move much, think of it as a 'pressure sensitive' brake pedal. I personally love the feel of the hydroboost brakes.

My Burb started life as a K10, but it now has 3/4 ton front and 1 ton rear brakes and the original K10 master cylinder. I actually like the pedal feel. It has a bit of travel and it's sensitive to rear brake adjustment, but the assist is great and it's not hard to haul down a load. My C20 with the same brakes (but stock C20 master) takes a good stiff leg to slow it down in a hurry.

I have hydroboost on both 1 tons, motor-home, one C10 (was diesel) and put it on my Jeep truck. Going to put it on my wife's full size Cherokee too. It gives up to 3 times the brake pressure. You'll love it.

There is no RPO for brake system on glove box door sticker. Rang Chev customer support, with the VIN and they cold only tell me DIsc/drum set up which I knew.

I'd like to convert to hydro boost and a JD7(?) option which I believe has the 13 x 2 '1/2 inch shoe pads in rear. The rotors are 1.25" Mine is a 3/4 ton and believe the 1/2 ton had 1' rotors.

As I've just got the truck and intend to keep it, i would like to upgrade whole system. I believe this entails changing the hard lines too as the outlet ports on MC are bigger.
if anyone out there has experience of this upgrade I'd love to hear from you.

Is the best solution to pull the wheels and measure rotors and drums then ?

Ok with a bit more research I've discovered that it has te optional C6P heavier chassis which gives it a GVRW of 8600 lbs.

So I'm thinking surely this is the JD7 Brake option. Wanting to pull he trigger on the Hydroboost and new MC. I'm thinking then that the lines should match.

I'd definately upgrade everything if I went hydroboost.

Honestly though we've never had hydroboost and ours works just fine, just freshen it all up and make it new and it'll stop good.

I'm still in two minds about it, even called Chev cust service in Troy and they couldn't tell me what the set up was. I figured if I was going to do the whole system why not upgrade, but lack of info is causing doubts.

So just go standard new calipers to suit JD7 system if I do Hydro ? Are they different ? I believed the JD7 rotors were already 1.25" and thought calipers would fit, not so ????
Rock auto seems to be the place.

Nice looking set up.

Forgive my 'newbieness' but did you have to swap out the power steering pump too ?
Do most of the hydroboost bolt straight on or do you use an adapter, and if so
could you point me in the direction of a good donor model thats a direct swap ? I've seen some conversions from Corvette units that require bolts and plate. I hear 99 astrovan works, an S10 of the same vintage (86) maybe ? If anyone can recommend a good interchange manual that would be helpful so as Im not buggin members with more inane questions. Thanks.

No such thing as a dumb question, (well we had one member, that would ask some off the wall questions, but he's no longer here).

I got mine from a U-Pull-It yard, $60.00, it came out of a 85 Diesel Suburban. I went to Autozone bought new lines. One pressure line goes from the pump to the Booster, from the Booster to the pressure side of the steering box, or maybe vise verse.

You can buy a new Power steering pump, but you don't have too, I just taped into my return line, I figure the is no high pressure.

I think all together with buying the Hydro-boost, and all new lines, I had about $110.00 bucks.
