Oh so now the rest of the story comes out. Yeah you can ride 37s on a 10 bolt... after breaking a bunch of **** and learning how to tip toe. Nothing like breaking parts to learn how to drive! More pain the better ya learn!

You are gonna break stuff with 33s if you go hard in the rocks.

I am sure I ain't done breaking stuff.

Now get down here and build me a bomb proof truck. Lol

I blame that Dirt Everyday episode where he works with Steven Watson and puts those portal boxes on that CUCV truck for their Alaska trip.
An additional 4" of lift or so, lower gear ratios and 40" tires would be great for me breaking trail for the winter trail rides. Right now with my 14 bolt I'm scraping more than anyone else.

Umm ok sorry about that, I'm ok.
SO what would you want those for anyway? I mean unless you lived in Canada and wanted to run 50" tires to drive up into high country and talk to God...
or hunt Samsquatch...

We have laid out some build plans on here together. You darn well know why people want portals. Because they are available.

Aside from tires, they are the only thing that moves the axles straight up, creating more clearance. Another set of gears never hurt anyone.

Got any overland adventures planned?

Overland gets used so much. It's like the cool thing now. I trail, and camp on some trails. I still consider it camping. Lol

It actually just dawned on me that you might be thinking along with others that I'm building this suburban for "Overlanding" because of my user name. Lol

I should clarify that I'm actually building it for "Camping, Hunting and Fishing" as the title of the thread says. That's pretty important piece of info I think because there would be a pretty significant difference in builds. Yes I've been stuck Camping, Hunting and Fishing before so Lockers are something I'm going to appreciate. Also one of my hunting areas often has a substantial amount of snow and Lockers can get me an extra 5 miles up the road hopefully lol. I'm not saying I will never overland the Suburban though it likely won't be as extreme of overlanding as what some consider overlanding.

Basically just trying to make it a noticeably more capable 4 wheel drive.

This is how my truck started out. I got stuck in my driveway once and once on the way to do some fishing. "I'll just put a locker in the back and it will be more capable."

So started with this and added a locker:

One of my best investments was a winch.

I'm debating between a bumper mounted winch or a chainsaw winch with built in winch points on all 4 sides of the Burb! Maybe both! I always carry a chainsaw regardless in case of downed trees in the road which can happen in the woods and has happened to me before

I still haven't gotten around to getting a winch yet. I have a high lift jack and lots of logging chain but haven't needed it yet.

On the last 2 outings the Jeep guys I was with have winches and the twice someone needed to be pulled out... and both times the winch broke. These are the "good" Warn winches also.

I used my Voodoo rope and pulled them out instead.
