Can you get a sub that's only 3-4" tall?

They make shallow subs but I've never been happy with how they sounded. So if you have the right enclosure and sub combo then its a possibility. Most shallow subs have 3 1/4 - 3 7/8 top mounting depth. I think a wedge box behind the seat will provide better sound.

While I have my bench seat out, I am fiberglassing some corner brackets for 6x9 or maybe 6.5” (haven’t quite decided).

I also plan on shopping for a low profile 8” subwoofer and building a cab wide (speaker bracket to speaker bracket) sub box.

This is in theory at this stage. Once I complete the corner brackets and shop for a sub, I will take measurements to see if I can get the air space needed for a box and still fit it in behind the seat.

I’m 6’-5” so bench seat has to be slid all the way back.

Currently mounting 4-channel amp under dash with stock receiver and EQ mounted in glove box. Will be adding capacitor under hood and sub amp in with box? Or maybe under seat???

Still in infant stages of planning.

There are some self enclosed and powered subs made by Sony, Alpine, PIoneer, and a few others that, given what they are, will get you over the hump and fit really well behind the seat, against the rear cab well.

Here is one from Kicker,
  • Dimension: 13 7/8 x 9 3/8 x 3 1/8
That is pretty small and slim, so much so that you for 186 bucks you can pick up 2 and got for broke. No box to build and you can use a minimum of 8 gauge wire for each amp and run them discretely. Combine that with a head unit that has subwoofer output and built in crossover control, and then put you some good speakers on your door and mount the tweeters in the original dash spot to fire off your front window. Not 100 % perfect but if you balance the controls, you can have a respectable sounding system. To be fair though you probably will only need one of these units in your truck.
