Not a short box, but nice. On Facebook
And since we are here, how do you put a tracker on your truck. I think I will put in a hidden master cutoff switch in mine, Break my heart to have my restored truck and new 489 motor stolen.

Is there a thread here that discusses which is the best “club” to get? There are a bunch of different models.

On January 17, 2025, my 1987 Chevy Silverado SWB was stolen, 12 noon, right out of the parking lot of the government building where I work. Security was not alert and our cameras are too old to zoom close enough to get a tag or facial recognition. The good news is that our Capitol Police found it the next day. The bad news is that all they found was the stripped cab. Picture attached.

This sucks. I am heartbroken over it to say the least but I've embraced the suck and recovered enough to start looking for another '87 SWB. So email me if you have something or know of one for sale.

A word to the wise, put a kill switch and a GPS locator on your vehicles. Don't take the chance of thinking someone doesn't want it or it's too ratty to steal. Someone is watching you. Someone near you wants your truck. Believe me. My false sense of feeling it was safe allowed this to happen. Don't let it be you!

You must be registered for see images attach
So sorry for you I have an 85 red SWB 4 WD pickup I would be devastated to lose that way. These are scumbags to say the least. They sure picked the carcass bare. Guess they know from prior crimes what to do and how to go about it quick.

Thank you! If it's what I want, then I'll go as far as I have to, or trailer it.

My budget is around $30K+/-. I'm looking for a daily driver but in good to great condition. Absolutely no rust.

I hope to not "repair" anything for a while. ;)
With pricing for our square bodies a bit weaker of late, with your budget you should be able to find something even nicer than just a daily driver. I see some all the time in that range but since I already have one of my own, I don't go to look at them. Best wishes fellow truck lover.

Not that I'm aware of. I got the original design from my local mom and pop auto parts store. I like it. I don't drive with the steering wheel down, it's more like it would be if the column wasn't a tilt column. With the club installed it sits right in the corner of the a-pillar and windshield, so the wheel isn't turning. And because it sits that high it's visible for all to see.

Our factory wheels are super easy to cut through, then you just pry a gap. Many wheels are easy to do this to. There are deterrents you attach to your brake pedal that are supposed to be better. The idea is that they are typically harder steel.

Something like this:

This is what I have for GPS tracking. It's $100 a year, but that's cheap insurance to know I won't lose my truck I've had since high school. Battery powered, which last at least 5 years, and uses GPS and 5G LTE. You can track it on an app, set up a geofence, etc.

True. If they're gonna take it, they'll take it. I considered the brake club as well. PD does sit across the street numerous time a day and night, so I do have that added defense on my side.

I keep waiting for them to steal my "cat" from this truck, as it's just a cherry bomb resonator but in the position a cat would be in the exhaust system...lol...

I still say kill the fuel supply, let them get 75 feet into the road or middle of the parking lot before it dies and won't restart that's when it draws the most attention, people wanting to help, people honking until you move, calling 911 to report a stranded vehicle, etc. They make fuel cut off solenoids, you coukd even wire an electric pusher pump as a cut off,if you pick the correct pump.

Sad and infuriating to hear. I feel some of your pain, as my truck was stolen once but I was able to get it back after the thieves' joy ride ended with a busted driveshaft yoke and high centered. Not near the destruction you suffered though.

I have been thinking about many anti-theft devices and methods but I don't want a generic alarm that just makes noise after initial damage is done. Kill switches are great, which I had installed prior to the last attempted theft, but they punched a hole in the door and destroyed my steering column before realizing they couldn't start it. There has to be some initial deterrent to make them skip to the next vehicle instead of even trying yours.

I have read about the apple airtags that can be hidden somewhere. It will alert anyone with an iPhone that there is a tracker near by. Assuming the thief is an iPhone fan, he will decide to move on. There is a video out there showing how to disable the speaker on the airtag so it can't be found.

It seems you need several levels of security, other than keeping the truck in sight or locked in the garage, so here is what I am going to do,
- install metal in the door by the lock so they can't punch through to unlock (like a Jimmi' Jammer)
- flashing blue led light that simulates after market security system, placed in plain view,
- steering column cover guard,
- kill switch or combination of switches that consist of a tactile feedback switch that can be easily hidden, maybe hooked to the horn,
- hide an airtag somewhere that can't be found,

I also don't want it to become a pain in my butt, every time I just want to hop in and drive. I've even thought about quick release steering wheel, with security cap, but they would probably steal the steering wheel!
