I originally had 265/70/15's on my truck but I have 8" wide rims to have the sidewall closer to straight instead of going inward like it would have been if I was running a stock rim at 6.5". Everything was fine until the first rain and I was hydroplaning all over the place. So I moved down to a 235/70/15 to narrow the frontal and that was a lot better.

Ya'll's big tires don't hydroplane?

The only set of tires I've ever had that were bad about hydroplaning was a set of General Ameritracs and they certainly were not wide. They were 185/75/14.

Hey y'all! Thank for all your feedback and comments. My work schedule is....hectic these days, so my ability to respond is hit or miss. Just wanted to say thanks again for y'alls help!

At the request of my MUCH better half, I cleaned up Blue, and thought I'd share!

Any good suggestions for steel wheel suppliers? I have a set of 285/75r16 I would like to run on my 86. The axles are out of a 73 K10 though so I need a 16", 6x5.5" wheel. The only thing I really see is a pro comp 16x8.

6x5.5 is the lug number and distancing.. it almost has to be? the 16x8 is the diameter and width then of the new wheeel. your 16x8 wheel since it has 6x5.5 lug pattern should fit your truck and most tires in a 16 inch you can put on are going to fit a wheel thats at least 8 inches wide it might need wider depending on the tire. What tire you looking? im not sure the OE width

to my knowledge halftons in 4wd would have a 8 inch wheel for a wider tire, the 2wd may be 7 or 6 at the smallest... i would think especially in the 80s. what was the tire size?

also a 4 inch backspace on 2wd no idea on 4wd

Summit Racing has a at least a half dozen wheels. I don't know the hub diameter you need but it will narrow it down. Wheel Vintiques has a steel smoothie wheel in a 6 on 5.5", 16x8, 4" BS, 4.25" bore. Their page shows $115 a wheel.

The second picture is a 16x8 with a 285/75R16.

My truck is a CUCV with K10 axles. The tires I have came off my land cruiser I just sold They are BFG T/A KO2s that require a 8" wheel at a minimum. I want 16" wheels, just trying to make sure I don't rub with the wrong backspacing or that is doesn't fit on because of hub diameter.

If I measured correctly the inner lip of the hub is only 3.5". Are these truck lug centric or hub centric?

To be honest I don't know. On the Land Cruiser pictures I found with these wheels they look hub centric. I don't know the hub size though.

For what its worth, I've owned 8 Square body trucks and at least a half dozen or more other GM trucks (3/4 and 1 ton) all with aftermarket aluminum wheels. They all had conical style lug nuts and converted to lug centric from hub centric. I had tires up to 15/36R16.5's and never had any issues with the wheels.

Lug

hub centric I haven’t seen a car or truck with a hub centric under the size of medium duty truck. I have some 22.5 wheels that are hub lol. The lug centric will have a bevel in the lug nut spot. Hub will be just a hole

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse things. The tires are coming from my land cruiser. I am not trying to re-use the LC wheels. I will be buying new ones for the square body.

in such case i would use a 16x8 rim so 16 diameter and 8 inch wide. if you wanted to use 10 inch wide wheels im almost sure that would require spacing on a half ton and i think people squeeze by on 3/4 ton? @bucket you know the answer to that so do others im sure (both k series, no idea 2wd)

note: your wheel pictured had 4.25 backspacing. i forget what way backspacing is measured, so if it puts the wheel .25 inch closer to the hub you would want to be careful but if it puts it away, then it should be fine. everythign i found said factory 4 inch back spacing

I'm running 8" wide wheels with I think a 5" backspace which puts the hub in the middle. They're Basset NASCAR and IMCA racing wheels I ordered for my truck. But I ordered a 7" wide wheel with the same spacing for a spare so I could run a narrower tire and it wouldn't be this huge a** tire to try and get out from under the back. Like a 165/75/R15?

I'm running a 235/70/R15 on an 8" wide rim
