Stock M1008/CUCV Suspension Questions/Pics

Does anyone have any photos of the stock suspension on a K30/M1008? How many leaves are in the pack, the attachment points, shackles, etc.

Is there any way to determine what springs are on my truck? Number of leaves, embossed letters/numbers, etc.?

I am trying to get my truck back to stock springs and ride height. I removed an aftermarket shackle on the front and replaced with a 4.5" from ORD. The front still sits ~1.5" higher than the rear even though the rear has a 3" lift block still installed.

Those are aftermarket front lift springs. Rear springs may have a couple leaves added. My M1008 rear springs have 8 or 9 leaves, plus the overload.

They appear to be constructed the same as my springs from an '83 C30.

Thanks for the info. I think I count 9 leaves in mine. Is the number of leaves common between the various models of trucks? Or is that number specific to the CUCV?

Uh, how many lugnuts do you have? That's a Dana 44 front axle and the rear axle appears to be a 12 bolt axle.

Stock axles would have been a Dana 60 front and a 14 bolt, full float rear axle.

Rear end appears to definitely be a 10 or 12b by the shape of the cast webbing, not to mention the lack of the removable pinion gear....

Front is dana of some sort...

But it's hard to tell.

60 has a raised spot where the front diff fill hole is, 44 doesn't.


So did someone tell the 1 tons from under the truck?

I have six on both axles. I know the truck is a frankenstein. Someone stole the good axles from it and slapped a different VIN from a V6 truck. The original Army truck VIN was "rendered destroyed". Long story. But I know the cab and frame are the CUCV. I found the partial VINs on both. It is a Dana 44 and 12 bolt truck axle right now. It also has an LS swap and an SM465. Frankenstein is the best word I can think of.

Yes, hence why I was inquiring about your 14 bolt. I'll write down a list of questions about the axle later today and send them to you. Basically, I'm looking for a period correct one with the right track width. I don't want the AAM 1150 version or one out of a van that has the wrong trackwidth.

The one I have came from a 3/4 Ton truck

But it is a 14 bolt full floating axle.
15" drums I believe.

The AAM is 99-06 disc brake I believe.
This is a earlier drum brake axle.

Here's my K30, prior to the lift. 3 leaves in front with a negative arch, 9 (8/1) in the rear, not including the over load on top.

Look up @Frankenchevy build it will give you most of the info you're looking for.

Here’s what my stock CUCV rear leaf pack looks like. The “straps” around the leaf packs vary from other 30-series trucks I’ve seen.

A negative arch is normal for a stock front spring, not sure about a M1008 CUCV.

I've lifted 3 stock square bodies over the years, all had negative arch front springs and the ride quality sucks. My OEM springs are long gone, sorry. If you're just looking to lower the front, just remove the bottom 2 leaves and see where it sits.

Here's the measurements of my truck prior to lifting it (below photo). I measured from the axle center line to the upper longitudinal body.

Front: 29.5". Rear: 30.5".
