This is my first post here I've been a long time lurker and have gained alot of knowledge from everyone. I recently bought a 83 k10 and i wanted to upgrade the radio and speakers. The original owner made some custom speaker boxes that mount in the top cab corners of the truck so i ordered 2 new 6x9's and installed those. Once that was done i tested everything to make sure it worked and it did so i decided i would try to install the new radio. I matched up the wires and connected them all and when you plug the radio in it comes on like its supposed to but I cant get any sound out of the speakers. The only way they will do anything is if I hook up the blue power ant wire to one speaker and that just makes the speaker crack when i turn the radio on and off any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Do you have any pictures of the wiring?

What model / brand stereo did you use?

Did you correctly wire the harness to the right wires?

What kind / color of wire did the PO use?

If you have pictures of the harness where the truck wiring and stereo wiring connect, that would be easier to diagnose.

The camera on my phone is messed up right now so i cant take any pictures. I used a Boss 560BRGB radio. Its looks like the previous owner cut the wires off the back of the factory radio because the color of the wires match what should be orginal.

Ebay has a lot of factory correct radio wiring harnesses cheap if that's what you need. Just a thought.

If you want to start fresh use american international GWH341 or equivalent to recreate the factory plug. If you are going to use an OEM radio then the GWH341 will plug into the radio. If you are going to use an aftermarket radio then you will also need GWH342 or equivalent to mate to the aftermarket radio and plug into the factory (or your remade factory) harness.

You will need to find a wiring diagram for your year truck to make GWH341 work correctly but once you do it will be like a factory harness.

These parts are like 3-7 bux each on ebay.

You screwed through one of your rear speaker wires.

Ok so ive got the radio working now. I just ran the wires from the speakers into the harness that came with the radio. Now the music sounds ok on low volume but once you turn it up it gets very scratchy and the back of the radio gets a little hot. Any ideas

What color wires are on the radio? Most aftermarket stereos share wire colors and function
