Stereo install from new to oem

My 87 stereo hole has been cut to fit a new style head unit. Is there any way to return an OEM without replacing the. BEZEL? Also, where do you find the new head units made to look OEM? I want the original style with the upgrades of new, digital, USB port etc... t.i.a.

you can get the installation kit for the squarebodies.

it is a kit for putting a din mount in squarebody.

the face plate it comes with, however, has the traditional 2 shaft style layout.
(you can also 'knock out' that layout for a full din)

so you get a 2 shaft, din mount radio that will look original style without welding in a replacement panel.

otherwise, you'll need to weld in a panel.
the shaft mounts are recessed and that is what 'holds' the radio in place for the most part.

i went the adapter route myself to fix a butchered panel.

WM you got pics of it installed? I’m about to cut the dash on my lwb to weld in my swb, but if I don’t have to do it...

i used the same 'kit' as Craig 85 (whose truck is MUCH nicer!)

my truck came to me with the dash cut out and oversize at that.
i think my son said there was a full size CB in the opening.


i welded in some metal and smeared some filler

How did you support the back of the radio? Did you use the factory metal strap?
Also, I have the same plasic face behind your radio. How did you get the radio to hold itself in place?
Mine is trying to slide out.

the radio is a cheapie and super light/short (no high power mosfets/heatsinks) so i didn't use the 'plumber's tape' strapping in the back.

the radio slides into a cage.
the cage has tabs all around the perimeter that you bend up to lock it into the mounted portion.
the radio then slides in and snaps into the cage.
2 popsicle stick looking things insert on either side to release the radio catches if you have to remove it again.

yes I have a pioneer radio with a built in amp and other features. I'll have to use the strap or it pitches up.
I need to adjust my tabs to hold better too.
