All,
The time has finally come for me, as it comes to every squarebody owner, to fix the cracked and spongy frame member(s) where my power steering gear bolts to the chassis.
In fact, on Monday I am shipping it to my friend's shop ~ 300mi away, where he can tear it down and fix all the ticking time bombs left by the PO.
My info:
- 1973 C10 longbed
- 350sbc, TH350c trans
- 4.5"/6" drop by PO
My question(s):
Looking at aftermarket plates and brackets for this repair, it looks like the same weld-on fishplate(s) are sold by every vendor. ORD, Smittybilt (through Summit), here is the drawing from LMC:
However, ORD and others state this is for 4WD trucks with straight axles only.
Any reason it would not work for a 2WD 1/2 ton C10?

W/R/T the other braces (to the crossmember etc) that are available, we are going to fix the big hole in the frame first, and the steering shaft, then see how that feels.
I have cracks at my rear shock mounts, too, but I will ask those questions in a separate thread.
Thanks,
BRetty
