I have the notorious sloppy steering column. I went into it and tightened the bolts the are the common problem but it didn't fix the problem. Has anybody been deaper than that? Any help would be appreciated.

A few things i have found while fixing mine is to elimiate that stock rag joint by installing a jeep steering shaft, next was making sure the frame at or around the steering gear is not cracked (can be common), next make sure tierod ends are good and tight, also if its just free play you can tighten the steering gear with a 5/8ths wrench and allen wrench. If non of that fixes it you are right with me and the gear is shot. :( napa has them re-man for $120 with core of $80.

Did you do all of them or only the ones you could get to without a complete disassembly?

I tightened all four bolts but it seems to be something deeper in around the gear shifter. The whole column twist when trying to change gears.
