There is a small 'bar' in the middle from the firewall to the dash - attaches around the ashtray opening.

You can see a bit of it (circled). Give you an idea where it is.

inquiring how others did the repair after the spot weld cut out phase. I have it welded up and grinding it down , self etching primer?, then a windshield mastic or possibly a brushable seamsealer? I thought about POR-15?

The latest question......
So as I try and proceed on the steel dash swap , I got the harness out of the way. I started to look at my original cab and my replacement cab I am noticing differences....here are the stats
Original 81 c10 auto trans
replacement 85 k10 manual trans.
since I am sticking with auto trans how do I delete clutch pedal ? should I swap the pedal assemblies too.

Both pedals hang from a single long bolt so you can remove that bolt and hang an automatic pedal from it.

That said, hydraulic clutch type pedals are somewhat rare and valuable! If there’s the slightest chance you might ever use them, keep them. If you’ll never use them, I’d remove that entire bracket and install an auto pedal assembly, that complete pedal assembly (with strut rods, etc) can be worth $200-$250.

Thanks,
I will not use them. I am just looking for the best way to move forward. As usual another step in disassembly , when I was really looking to start re asssembling!
Someone tell me there is re assembly at the end of this process......:33:

Good Morning ,
I am doing a swap to a replacement cab , Anyone ever tried or accomplished a steel dash, wiring harness, steering column, pedal swap all at once? In my head, 5 dash bolts, 2 wiring harness screws, many steering column screws, some heater cables and wires.
Am I missing something,,,,I would just prefer not to undo all of it and re assemble.
If I am nuts to think this please let me know

Yeah, I was going to say that the harness and all that is intertwined with the cab. But even if it was possible, the weight of the column would really make it awkward. The dash is kind of like a floppy wet noodle when it's removed.

So when finishing a steel dash swap what did you use to secure the dash at the windshield seam.....all the spot welds were overkill.
Use welds, pop rivets, seam sealer, panel adhesive? OR a combination....
The bolts on each end hold the majority of it just need to secure it to the windshield frame area.

Should I ever get that far, my intent is to use panel adhesive with simple pop rivets. I think anything else (nuts/screws) would stick up too far and interfere with the windshield seal.

They assemble airliners with adhesive/rivets so that should work just fine. :hat:

We are thinking the same...seam sealer would not have the adhesion is what I am thinking. A few rivets after a smear of panel adhesive. Now to research panel adhesive. This is probably the only use I will have for it so not looking for a large quantity and or expense
