Update (a year later) Situation got worse and the truck ran poorly, consistently. Braking was poor (as if the booster wasn't getting enough vacuum). I would have to put it in neutral and give it revs to prevent running into the back of someone. In previous replies, someone mentioned to not just start replacing parts because you may not fix it. So I heeded that advice. Gave in and took it in to mechanic. Turns out the EGR valve was stuck causing a big vacuum leak (Hence the poor braking.) With a replacement EGR it runs smooth and stops great. I suspected the EGR and was thinking of replacing it. I wish I had. I would have save a couple hundred dollars. Oh, well. It should be good for another 34 years. Thanks again.
