I geuss i wasnt really thinking the lockout sticks out quite a bit on a 10 bolt maybe it would be close to flush with the rim if you used adapters

My dad had a K20 he converted back in the 80's, I don't know any of the specifics, but you could turn the lockouts without tools. Until one of them broke and he just rode around with all the parts in the gloves box and assembled the hub whenever he wanted 4x4 lo.

Here's a shot of my K30 when the bed was off. You can see the springs are closer to the frame and the shocks mount on the inside of the frame.

Also, here's a link to a company (Arrowcraft) that makes dually conversions. They've been around for over 30 years. Unfortunately, they don't make squarebody fenders anymore. Unlimited Products makes square body dually fenders. Part # GM-201R/L.

You must be registered for see images attach

so if your stock spring perches are like that, your chassis was originally a srw 1 ton? what about CUCV trucks? did they come with the same setup?

this is my setup, so I guess I technically have a srw 1 ton chassis...

The easiest way to tell at a glance is the shock location. 1 tons are inboard of the frame rails. They are also staggered in the opposite direction as 1/2 and 3/4 tons.

yes the shocks are just inside the frame rails...

guess I have a k30...maybe kinda

makes sense with the CUCV rating at 5/4 ton

Wow, thanks guys, a whole mouth full of info. I've seen the Arrowcraft kits on the net but they are quite pricey. I was hoping to find good used parts. Is the price of $300 for the spacers for K20 or K30 spacers? I think I'll be able to fabricate different rear spring hangers.

The spacers should fit either axle, since they just bolt onto the factory wheel studs. When GM built a DRW truck, the "spacer" was cast right into the hub. Nowadays, the OEM's just use spacers.

Your k30 should already have the correct hangers.

Thanks for all the input, much appreciated. Any ideas where I can maybe find used spacers as well as used wheels and fenders. Unfortunately the exchange rate of the US$ versus ZAR is not in my favour at R14/$ and I need to try and save where I can especially because I have to still ship it halfway around the world as well. There must be squarebody junkyards around that you knowledgeable guys can recommend.

Just FYI, Fastenal does pretty reasonable shipping. Guy who bought my 406 used them and they sent it to Atlanta for like 140 bucks or something.
