So I recently upgraded my cam/heads/intake on my '83 K20. Nothing crazy, 906 heads, Summit 1103 cam, Summit 226062 intake. I've got a crappy Amazon special HEI dizzy that is coming all in WAY to early that I'll be changing soon, but that's a different post. lol Overall, she's running pretty good, with a noticeable increase in power, especially above 2 grand.

So, when I picked up a set of non cracked 906 heads, I needed a new vortec intake. Snagged up a Summit special (see pic), and figured I was good to go. UNTIL, I realized I bought a square bore intake and I planned on running my Qjet. No worries, I'll just snag a spacer. So I picked up an open type spacer (2nd pic). It all fit together with no problems, and no vacuum leaks have been found with a spray test.

Here's the question. Am I loosing any low end power by using this type of spacer? I'd prefer one that keeps the planes separate (am I saying that right?), but can't seem to locate what I'm looking for, except for this Spectre kit (3rd pic) from the local parts store.

So, my questions are:
Do I really need to worry about the 'type' of spacer? Am I really losing torque down low using it?
Will the Spectre spacer be better than the one I currently have (open)? It's only 30 bucks, so I guess I could snag on it, and test, but I thought I'd put it out there to some QJet gurus, and see what y'all think.

And I know, I know! I should have bought the right intake, but here we are! lol

Thanks in advance y'all, and happy cruisin!

I'm a believer in keeping dual plane manifolds dual plane, which an open hole adapter doesn't do. I put up two screen shots, one from lunatis website,1 from I think it was Edelbrock If I was dead set on running an adapter,I'd be using the edelbrock adapter. I've seen them as cheap as 20.00 new.

I used this adapter on my 454 so I could mount the quadrajet on the intake and it works great! No power loss at all. Actually like it way better than the edelbrock that was on it before. If anything it's more responsive and runs better.

Hey y'all!

I couldn't find a dual plane adapter, so I made one. Basically, cut a notch in my existing adapter (like the one that 82sbshortbed posted), and slapped in a piece of aluminum flatbar. I didn't really need to, but I RTV'd the slots after I inserted the flat bar. The change in performance was definitely noticeable! I hadn't changed anything else, and it just seemed to come off idle faster.

Just my .02, your results may vary. ;)

Happy crusin!
