Spark plug wires...

This could be the most anal question ever asked, but here it goes. When I got the '73 C20 with a 454 the PO had put on a mix of anything goes spark plug wires. I recently got a set of "cut to length" wires. I can do the trial and error method of figuring out which length is best for each plug run, but does anyone know what the correct wire lengths are for each specific plug?

Long wires= long runs. And so on. It really is up to you. I don't show my engine off cause it don't look like what you expect with the short wires :).

A pre-made set is probably a compromise in one position or another depending on a lot of things like exhaust manifolds, etc. They may also be made to fit several different applications but none perfectly.

The best thing to do is route them as short as possible while making sure they don't get burned or rub on something.

If you want it to look nice, your best off getting the crimper and making them your self to the proper length for your set up.

The pre made sets are universal all of them are made to fit any possible way out there so they are universal even when it says custom

Start with the longest wires and work your way down starting at the furthest plug from the distributor. Take the time and use a magic marker to number all the **** on the cap with the correct cylinder number and firing order, that will help lessen any confusion or mistakes.

number 2 is the longest. number 8 and 7 are the shortest. put those on and it should be fairly easy to figure out the rest. this is under the assumption that the distributor is in correctly. highdesertranger
