I'm looking for a spare tire mount for under the bed that will work with my trailer hitch.

I currently have the factory side mount spare tire carrier in the bed but I'd like to relocate it.

Will a factory one work? Where to buy one LMC?

I have a slide out spare tire mount sitting around... I was planning on putting a bed mount one on since I'm running 35's and a blazer tank. I'd swap you if you want?

sorry not looking to trade. I want to keep it since it's original to the truck.

Just trying to figure out what will fit.

I don't believe the factory tire carriers will work with a frame mounted hitch. There may be an aftermarket hitch that will allow the tire to fit. But I've never looked in to it.

For a GM tire carrier you'll probably also need the two crossmembers that the tire rests on. I got one of the ones I needed from Ray and Samantha on Ebay. They harvest and sell a lot of frame and chassis parts for these trucks.

That's fine, I was originally planning on making one out of DOM tubing anyways. I had a 74 C20 that had the slide out(same one sitting out back) and also a frame mounted hitch. I'll be removing the stock crossmembers from my K25 in the next week or so also, since I'm putting in a Blazer 31 Gallon tank and crossmembers. You are welcome to have them if you want to pay shipping. Probably not too bad from Oregon.

I have one I'll let go of. It's for a 16" wheel, but the rivets could be drill out and the bracket moved for a 15" wheel. I actually got this from Ray and Samantha (lol) on ebay. Mine has the padlock attachment too. It wouldn't fit with my aftermarket receiver.

The spares do fit with factory hitches as I had one on my '87 (Last photo). The prior owner had a bed mount spare but switched to an under bed due to using an overhead camper. Tire was a 235/85R16.

I have a Drawtite frame mounted hitch and a 16” spare in a stock under-bed carrier, and it just fits. It’s a PIA to get up into place when working around the hitch, but it fits fine.

I usually slide the tire onto the bracket, and then put my small hydraulic jack under the bracket, and lift it all up while sliding the tire into place between the hitch brackets. Trying to hold it all up with one hand, and at the same time adjust position with the other hand is not easy.

I was looking for Ray and Samantha on Ebay but I couldn't find their listings. Is there a company name or link to their store? I'm looking to buy a spare tire setup for my 75 stepside.

Here's their ebay account. They don't seem to have anything listed at the moment, but I guess you can try to contact them and see what's what.

Thanks for the link. I saved it on ebay and will check back with them. It does look like they are not selling anything at the moment.

@Savageftr,

When I was rebuilding my truck, that was one of the first things I got rid of and that was that POS under frame tire rack thing. I hated that damn thing!!! I don't know how many times I had to get down on the ground, at night, in the damn dirt off the side of the road, in the damn rain, mud, scalding hot concrete in the Summer, Winter ice, ice cold mud, ice cold rain, and there I was laying in the crap struggling to get that tire off that damn thing with one hand trying to hold a heavy tire up, and with the other hand trying to unscrew that damn loop nut thing on that mile long bolt!!! And then going through the whole process to put the flat tire under there and go through all the crap again!!! Then filthy dirty, probably injured, bleeding or pinched or something, get back in the truck, late to where I had to be thirty minutes before!!!!!!AUGGGGGG!!

Sorry about that. I didn't like the design of the spare tire hanger thing under the truck. So I went out to this wrecking yard that had just new cars, trucks, and SUV's, back in '95 that is, and got me a brand new crank up spare tire thing to replace that....other thing under my truck. The only thing I couldn't get was the cross member because it was riveted on the frame. So I need the cross member to install my new spare tire thing on.

I'm pretty sure the new trailer hitches will fit around that spare tire thing since it's not that... DAMN other thing!!! Sorry about that. I have nightmares when I mention that...other spare tire thing.

ya, I could see that thing being a pain in the ass but I just didn't like look of the in bed mount. Maybe I'll just leave it in my garage unless im going on a longer trip. I'll can just throw it in the bed just in case when I go camping.

Realistically I'm crippled anyway and changing the spare on the side of the road would be hard for me to do alone. If I'm not far from home I can just call the wife to bring me the tire, floor jack and electric impact from the garage if the tire is so flat I cant drive on it.

Can I see the parts assembly like it can be disassembled, I just want to see the components because I have one in pieces but I don’t know where or what they look like. I have the band that is the hood down for sure, snd a bracket on the frame.
