This is where its at ATM. Gotta get the extension rod welded on, then painted and hung.

Next up will be how to secure the rear. There are two 2-1/2" square 'loops' on the back of the rack. Was thinking either a gravity latch type of setup or maybe mounting 2 more square 'loops' to the truck (back of the hitch actually).....and just using a carabiner and/or turnbuckle.

Just kidding! The lack of a spare has been heavy on my mind since I got this truck. Especially with 8 lugs I wanted to be prepared.

Just got 4 cooper 10 ply tires and put the best (?) original to a new cheap black steel spoker. I found the original carrier at a junk yard and painted her with a thin coat of shiny black rustoleum (no prep!). Just haven't gotten to loading her underneath yet.

I figure that AAA can drop the rusty thing when I get a flat!

Figured I'd add this here to keep it all together.

Wrapped up (for now) the Benz tire carrier. Was trying to figure a way to secure the cage and this was the closest/quickest I could find. Will probably revisit the whole thing later when the bed and bumper is on but it work for now. Found these brackets online - only idea as to what they normally do is maybe hanging light fixtures from conduit? Dunno. The hose is 7/8 OD and 1/2 ID - only ones that size are for gas or sandblasting. The wingnuts are ny-locks, but easy to remove and unhook it. This carrier makes removing a 100lb tire feel like 10. Love it.

ive been pondering cutting out the spare tire area of a car and fabricating that into my truck bed so as to make getting that tire out more easy.....kinda like in the pic of this spare in a car.....and to have a cover made from the bed floor....

Thought about that but what dissuaded me from it was the thought of having to access the tire when having a load in the bed.
