I have a 1988 C30 with SM465, 2wd. Something's broken inside and I have a chance to pickup another SM465, but it came out of a 1987 4WD K series. Research indicates that while the later versions each had a 35 spline output shaft, the 4WD version is longer. Can someone confirm whether or not I can swap these directly? If I have to change the output shaft, I guess I'll just rebuild what I have.

2wd’s were all short 35 spline.

4wd’s were either short 10 or long 32 spline, there are no 35 spline 4wd transmissions.

Converting the trans would require 75% tear down assuming the parts you need from the old trans are good.

It's relatively cheap. Just rebuild yours. 2wd 465's are the most plentiful trans in my area.
