Summer is here and daughter wants to take the doors and canopy off the 84 Jimmy for our weekends at the lake. No problem except I dont have a clue what to use for side mirrors. Im checking with the state about requirement but any suggestions will be appreciated.

If you weave, but stay in your lane, you won't have to worry.

With my bronco I use stick on convex spot mirrors

But I think the clamp on ones will be better

How are you removing the doors ?

And how do you plan on lining them back up when you reinstall them ?

On my bronco I use a removable hinge pin

Most states law is, Must have 2 ways to see to the rear, so keep your center windshield rear view mirror, then get some duct tape and tie wire and hang one on the top door hinge. Or you can go with fender mount mirrors.

Then on a serious note, the rain gutter is best for temp use but you can also mount one inside the door pillar though that would require a couple holes that you'd want to have some rubber plugs for when not in use.

Tell the daughter that when she grows up to be a big girl ,she can buy a Jimmy all her own and take the doors off whenever she wants to because 'Merica :patriot:.

(won't that work too?)

I might buy a pair of those to add with my big ass door mirrors. I think theyd make seein whats on my corners easy.

Napa Auto parts or any truck stop would carry the clamp style for truck mirrors.

Maybe the laws have since changed, but I have a Motor Trend magazine from '80 that says those fender mount style mirrors were not legal in the US.

Really? Could have changed. Remember they were common OEM mirror on some of the boat cars of the 60's, even GM. Chrysler did it alot and so I know Ford did some too.

The ones way up at the front of the fender like you posted were for the Japanese market. The only forward mounted mirrors I ever remember seeing on an American car were the add-on camper mirrors. But you have some years on me.

You know what the real shame is here now. Who still makes a family sedan or wagon that would need add-on mirrors to tow a camper or boat? Nobody. The family sedan market has went soft.
