Ohhh no buddy. There were many cars in both sedans and wagons that had the mirror way out there on the fenders. I know my 64 Grand Prix had one for sure. But they came fender mounted on Chrysler, Ford and GM brands for certain. Many different models but usually the biggo land yachts.

I'm certain it was 60's cars and as a young kid in the early 70's and being fascinated by cars that early, I always paid attention to that kind of thing. My parents cars didn't have mirrors like that so I always thought it was wierd to have a mirror way out there on the fender. As said, it was usually on the long ass boat cars.

I remember riding in my Uncles Chrysler New Yorker convertible one time. It has the center rear view mirror bolted to the dashboard. I thought that was wierd as hell since all the mirrors I had seen were bolted to the roof or stuck to the windshield.

Reminds me of when i was a child and riding in my dads 71 Grand Prix when i asked him why it only had a mirror on the driver side... he told me that at those years they only made them with the drivers side.

I paid attention to cars at an early age too, but that was early-mid 80's and it was mostly 70's or newer stuff around then. But I know Chevy's never had mirrors way up on the fenders. If other stuff did, I wasn't around to see it.

Yep, and was only to meet law requirements. If you seen a vehicle with 2 mirrors on the exterior, the passenger side was usually a dealer added option.

And on many cars, the passenger mirror was an option all the way into the early 90's.

That I think of it, I don't think I can recall a Chevy having them. And I don't know of any 70's car that did either. Ford sedans and wagons, Chrysler and Plymouth cars, and Olds and Pontiacs for sure but probably Cads and Buicks too.

Also makes me think of when he told me about early 70s (and earlier) motorcycles that were made without turn signals or mirrors.

Yep !!! I member that too. I remember making fun a girl that had bought a new car. Seems it was a Plymouth Volare IIRC, and I was teasing her and telling her to take it back they forgot the mirror. :happy175: And she did too. She got told it was an option and wasn't part of the deal.

The passenger door mirror is still an option on some econo boxes. It has to be a super cheap model.

Mirrors on the outside of the vehicle were dealer installed items in their new car get ready department. Some states did not require outside mirrors and the cars were shipped that way. I remember my father getting a ticket on a car he bought new just before he junked it, for not having a side mirror. So usually, outside mirrors were not installed at the factory, so different dealers mounted them as they saw fit.

Most states only require 2 mirrors including the rear view so that rain gutter mirror seems to be a good option.

These doors dont come off as easy as a Jeep. You guys do this every summer?
