My daily is the 1991 GMC 1500 SLE 305 with 97k miles, and the 1997 Chevrolet 3500HD Silverado 454 is the work horse.
Literally the best gen of GM trucks right there for a balance of newer amenities comfort reliability and simplicity.

Picked this up today for daily duties. 2 owner, 175k miles, fresh trans, 5.3, 4L60, 3.42s, G80 locker, bone stock. Even has the stock exhaust on it. Totally rust free, mostly straight. Had a paint job in 2018 and the roof is failing again, so that’ll need attending too. The rest of the paint will buff out nicely I think. Buckets, console, Bose sound, steering wheel controls. LineX, 5th wheel hitch and helper bags are the only mods. Runs beautifully, cruises down the road like new

Put a '99-'02 front clip on it and it will even look good too :)

Nahhhh you're crazy. I like this front end, it'll get the '06/07 hood and grille eventually

We can definitely agree on that. The later hood and grille look better, lol.

I thought that grille and hood started in '05 though. Or was that just on the HD trucks? I remember being at the dealer in early '05, they had a truck that caught my eye and it had the later hood and grille which I thought looked so much better. It was a crew cab, long bed truck. Dark charcoal gray, graphite interior. It was an 8.1L with the 6 speed manual, it was only 2wd though. I've never seen another one like it. I should have bought it, lol.

Yeah, the HD trucks got that front end starting in '05, the 1500s didn't get it till '06. The 8.1 trucks are killer, you definitely should've either bought that one or ordered one. My buddy has an '03 GMC 2500 crewcab/shortbed 4x4 with the 8.1/Allison for his tow rig and he absolutely loves it.

Trying to decide if I wanna do a clean/colormatched look like this one (I'd do handles and mirror caps too with no side trim):

Or leave it red and black (again with no side trim) and maybe throw a brush guard on up front

This is giving me flashbacks of old school GMFS where there were several SUPER clean GMT800 rigs back in that day on that forum. All colormatched, clear lenses, tinted. debadged.......:love62:

Cateye front clip was on '03-06, and '07 classic. Pickup only, not on the SUVs. Though I have seen a couple of Burbs with the swap.

There's a tahoe in my area with that swap. I don't necessarily dislike the "cat eye" clip but I enjoy the 01-02 clip better or Denali clip better in that generation. Either way, I've seen all the variations look pretty good. My favorite all time was Kyles03 dark green one back in the day. Those that were on the forums a decade ago would recognize that truck. STUPID clean.

Yasssss. Kyle actually just messaged me today after I posted a pic of the truck on FB/IG lol. That's the goals, mostly color matched and clean. Like a red version of my old GMC

Yeah, I've just never been fond of that front clip. But the '05/'06 refresh did improve the look significantly, imho. And it was leaps and bounds better looking than the '07-'13 trucks. But the '99-'02 clip was so dang nice and traditional looking. I'll probably catch some flak for saying this, but imho, the '01-'02 HD front clip is probably one of the best looking front clips to ever grace a Chevy truck.

Buddy of mine had a 2002 Silverado sportside, that he got from AutoNation when it was a couple years old. He said he saw it on a tour of their lot and he really liked how it looked. He agreed with me that the cateye front clip looks like it got sat on....
Not being a big NBS fan, I wasn't aware there were so many variants of the front clips. I got used to the Denali front end, looking at Dad's; that truck actually looked good with just the grille and wheels chrome, and the rest of the truck was black with dark tint glass.

I'd agree with that. The '03-07 Chevy front clip certainly is a love it or hate it. I remember when they came out, me and my dad couldn't stand them. Now I've owned 4 and he's owned 2 lol.
