Seat Swap?

So my front seats are just hammered. Flat. Ripped. Side metal framing exposed. I need new seats!

Now my question is, if I walk into a wrecking yard, what sort of 'newer' truck can I look at that will have some comfortable seats I can put in place of my current seats, preferably without having to mod anything. If I need to do some moding, I'm OK with that. I just don't have access to too many tools that allow me to fabricate things.

Yep, regular pickups, crew cabs and Burbs all have the humped floors making seat swaps difficult. K5's are the only ones that you can bolt in basically any seat.

I haven't done it, but you can easily bolt a frame together instead of welding. The thing holding me back is well just that.....my back. If I put bucket seats in a 4x4, the seats aren't going to be as forgiving as the springy bench seat I have currently.

The bench seats are definitely comfy

I'm new to the site. I currently have a bench seat in a 89 suburban. I'd like to put in newer (non-electric) bucket seats with manual recline. Did you ever come across anything that works with some bracket modifications? I have a good friend that can weld/fabricate just about anything I need. Trying not to re-invent the wheel if someone has had success with newer model, comfortable seats.

Back on the early 90's I replaced the low back buckets in my '77 K5. I used early 80's Chrysler buckets out of a full size 2 door coupe. I only had to use some steel flat stock to make mounting plates that matched the seat bases and my K5 seat bases. I had the front seats reupholstered in GM material. I'm not sure if the yards out your way still keep old vehicles, but they are a good source. Unfortunately, a lot of the the yards here in California scrap things pretty quickly.

The nice part about these seats is the backs were pretty adjustable forward and back.
