I’ve taken on the task of recovering the rats nest of a seat in the K10. It is a task. Getting the hog rings out was a battle but getting new ones back in even more of a battle. The electric turkey knife is a game changer!! But finding the dumb stuff people use to “fix” issues is giving some comic relief!

I’ve got a bench seat to recover in my truck, it’s been recovered previously and who knows what’s under there.
I’ve done upholstery many times when I was younger. I don’t look forward to it now, really tough on the hands.

Very tough on the hands! The hog rings were a whole body maneuver to get it though both sides and around the metal rod.

Here’s what mine look like.
I’m pretty sure my father had them recovered sometime in the last two decades.

I'm about to embark on this same task. New lower foam and a new velour seat cover from LMC arrived last week. I saw the hog ring pliers it came with an immediately knew I had to nab a new set from hobo freight or I'd be driving the struggle bus. Didn't think much about the taking the old ones off... I hope my hands are up to the challenge.

The LMC seat cover is awesome, looks just like original. Seat was saggy in the left front corner and I found the frame had broken and would bend down and a little welding fix that up.

I feel you. My latch bolt was spinning, busted weld. A little Booger welding and as good as(or better) than new!

Got them both recovered but let me tell you that back j channel that hooks on the bottom of the seat frame can not take a lot of pulling. I ended up having thread separation on the last 3” of it from pulling on it.

Easy job. LMC sells rings and tools.

Save a lot of pain and suffering and go buy a good set of hog ring plyers. You can also save yourself some time, sore hands and frustration by covering the foam with some "BIG" trash bags and then slide the new upholstery over them, get everything lined up then pull the bin liner out. Helpful hint if your going to cut a chunk out of your seat and replace it "don't use pillow foam. It's too soft. Go to an upholstery shop and see if they will sell you some of the seat foam. It costs more but is worth the difference.

I used some side cutters to cut the old hog rings. Went through like butter. Will see how the tool to do them back up goes

I'm about to do this project this weekend. I went to my upholstery shop and got a piece of foam. Now it sounds like I better find a better pair of hog ring pliers. I like the trash bag tip...

I had a pretty easy time getting the covers over, it was just the last tiny bit of that j channel mixed with my impatients! All in all it was a half way decent project that’s sitting on my kitchen table waiting for the carpet to be installed!

Seat bottom! Hoping to have carpet and seats fully installed by the weekend but ran into a water in the cab issue! But I didn’t want to risk putting the carpet and seats in with the water leak!
