Screwed up my ignition switch

Some SOB was messing with my plow truck and broke a screwdriver off in the ignition switch. I don't know what they were thinking, the damm thing is ready for the scrapper, but now I can't start it or unlock the column to take it out of gear or steer it.

It's a 88, but I am guessing the ignition switch is similar to a square. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the broken piece of screwdriver out ( there isn't any sticking out, so pliers won't work), or how do I pull the lock cylinder out?

You have to pull the turn signal switch out far enough to remove the retaining screw. There's probably a little contact clip thingy blocking the screw. Be careful popping it out, they tend to come apart opon removal.

I'm guessing that I have to pull the steering wheel then?

This might be a terrible idea but, I would try drilling a small hole in the bit of screwdriver thats left and then maybe you can grab it with a pick of some sort

Ready for scrapper.

Disconnect rag joint.
Go under car and disconnect trans shifter rod and put it in neutral manually.

Truck can then be pulled. Caster will keep wheels straight.

This might be a terrible idea but, I would try drilling a small hole in the bit of screwdriver thats left and then maybe you can grab it with a pick of some sort

There wasn't enough of the screwdriver left to try this.

That was the first thing I tried, but the broken piece was in too deep for the magnet to grab it.

I took out the lock cylinder and shook and prodded the broken piece of the screwdriver out, but the lock was damaged, so I ended up replacing it. Even though it is headed for the scrapper soon, it still pushes snow. Until I get a plow mounted on my K5, I have to keep limping it along.

I was at O'Reilly's today buying an lock cylinder and they set me straight. LoL!

Just completely disassembled my 85 column last night. Rebuilt with new cancelling cam, multifunction switch, stalk and delay wipers. My best advice is to have enough time to put it back together as soon as you take it apart. Let it sit for a day or two unassembled and you'll forget how it fit together. Lots of pictures! And go easy on the beer.

I was at O'Reilly's today buying an lock cylinder and they set me straight. LoL!

Yeah, I used the wrong name in the title, it was the lock cylinder that I had to replace.

Aww man i'm only bustin your balls a little...but when dude behind the counter showed me a picture of what I call a "starter switch" and asked "one of THESE?" with a ****** grin on his face ..."an ignition switch? OR do you want a lock cylinder?

My best advice is to have enough time to put it back together as soon as you take it apart. Let it sit for a day or two unassembled and you'll forget how it fit together. Lots of pictures!

I second that. Had my column apart for a week waiting on parts and forgot how it all went back together. @bucket helped me out with pics and a link.
