I guess it might just be me but i seem to accumulate thoughts and ideas all week (creeping in on threads and websites) and find my self sitting at work sat. mornings and just want to talk about them. And or throw out ideas about changes to our builds to see if they are good or get shot down.

So first thought is, the 79 has a good size exhaust leak #8 cylinder. What kind (if any) problems will this cause on the old girl if goes untreated till funds for headers arrive?

Second i keep tossing all kinds of ideas as far as motor swaps and w/e for the 79. But in all honestly its really just the bad/burnt valve and or valve's. So why not freshen up the heads? what can i do to the stock heads to make them a tish more lively without going nutz?

If the leak is just due to a cracked manifold, I wouldn't worry about it. Vortec heads would be fun, but depending on how worn the lower end is, you might not want to go for too much more power.

I was thinking about changing up my C10 build too. All along I've wanted factory color orange paint. Now that it's time to cut in the front sheet metal, I'm thinking a metallic orange/copper color would be cool. I can't decide.

Well it was -15 degrees so i popped the hood and started her today and saw it must be just a blown gasket. And i was hoping someone would bring up the vortex idea. Is that a direct bolt on? same pattern? The motor as far as i can tell has about 160k but all kinds of oil pressure and not a single noise except the exhaust leak now and the miss due to the valves.

You remember project copper-head from "Trucks" on power block TV? that was a sick orange/copper color.

I am working on the '90 this morning. 36 degrees and snowing/sleeting so it's a little miserable but I am happy to be tinkering on it.

Some say the 062 heads are the best and the 906 are junk because the exhaust seat hinders flow, but I say either one is good. I know two 350's that run damn good with 906 vortecs. I suppose if you're trying to wring every last bit of performance out of your motor, you might want the 062's.

The biggest thing with vortecs is they crack easy. Have them magnafluxed.

Kap, what will this truck be used for ultimately? Headers are one of those items that be be more problematic in the long run.
I preferr the drop down manifolds like on the 87 and up, or the early 70s types, no gasket.
Vortec heads are worth 30 to 40 hp out of the box, but if its going to be a work horse, TBI heads are a very good combo with a carburetor. As atated befor, edelbrock has a vortec carb manifold available.
