Kap, what will this truck be used for ultimately? Headers are one of those items that be be more problematic in the long run.
I preferr the drop down manifolds like on the 87 and up, or the early 70s types, no gasket.
Vortec heads are worth 30 to 40 hp out of the box, but if its going to be a work horse, TBI heads are a very good combo with a carburetor. As atated befor, edelbrock has a vortec carb manifold available.

Jim..... you always spark ideas in my head lol! well the 79 is and will always be the truck i beat up weather its pulling, offroading or just running over little cars in town. To answer ur question i love TQ and as you may remember i have a 91 tbi im gutting the tbi system for the 400. Hence there is a set of tbi heads sitting there
