I'm doing a body swap using a '78 Chevy chassis including complete power train, and a '58 M37 military truck.

I saw some saddle tank delete threads but nothing on earlier trucks. Mine is a 1978 K20 Camper Special and the fuel tanks have got to go.

I've seen that later trucks are using a 31 gallon tank from a blazer which I'm assuming fits between the frame rails behind the axle.

I found a 40 gallon tank that fits a Suburban listed here: https://www.classicindustries.com/product/1978/chevrolet/k20suburban/parts/ft5016a.html
and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with using this style tank in a pickup?

I really don't want to buy a 40 gallon tank if a smaller tank will fit better, so any help will be much appreciated. Especially if you've actually done or helped to do what I'm doing.

Yeah... but will it fit without being a pain in the a**?
It fits on the burbs. There are a couple members that have done the rear tank installation on their trucks, hopefully they will chime in. I still have two side tanks and plan to keep them as long as I possibly can.

Possibly can? What would make it impossible?

Body swap to an M37.

Is there some kind of reason to keep them?
I forgot your username, so I also forgot about your unique project.

First check with DMV to see if your project is feasible, and only then move forward with modifications.

Maybe you could define it for me...
Alright. I didn't realize what your project was about. Now that I do, I understand the logic for your question. My bad.
