I had a 1406 on my 454 and it was a dog. I swapped a level 2 quadrajet on it and it's a world of difference between the two. I have a rv cam, intake and Lt hedders on it too. Sob spins the tires from dead stop now. Much better throttle response also.

With a 454, I would think 750cfm would be the right size. Do you know what type of cam that you are running?

I do believe it is stock...but I'm not 100% sure. There is no lope...vaccume is pulling 18-20lbs of mercury at idol.

And....im pretty sure you are correct. I just got ahold of some bad info. Made a couple minor adjustments to the floats and the 750 seems to be much better.

But....i did have to time it 6-8° BTDC. They says these 454s should be set at 4....but the vaccume guage claimed latent timing.

Thing fires right up now....like....if its even a little warm, its instant. Faster than our 2014 Ford Fusion.

Sounds like you are getting your arms around the problem. I finally found someone here that knows what a carb is, so, I think I am on the right track too.
I love the sound of a big block V8.

Okay guys. With all of the good feedback, I owe you an update. I finally found a guy here that understands carbs. I bought a rebuild kit and a tune up kit for the 1405 (the third one). He said the stalling problem was over jetting. he installed the correct jet and needle sizes. Three different guys worked on the carb and the car sat for more than two years without running. I just got it back today and it looks like the problem is solved. I'll know within the next day or so. It finally feels like all 400 horses are working together through that 4L60 and the 4.56 gears.

Okay, I'll post a video as soon as I get it back from the shop. Apparently I put a stone through the rad. I'm getting it welded up.
