Replacing turn signal switch in 75 High Sierra

So it looks to me like the turn signal switch is bad, in my son's 75 GMC. You can get the signals to work briefly, by playing around with the lever, right on the edge of where it would click on, but as soon as you click it all the way, the signal won't work anymore. Seems like bad switch to me, but if you've got a different idea, I'm all ears.

Questions:

1. Anyone have experience with LMC's $44 dollar replacement? Son's got to order a few other things from them, wondering if their switch has a good track record.
2. Anyone got a good link to some video on replacing this switch? I've hunted around on youtube a bit, but I'm still not clear on the whole procedure, for tearing into the column. I'm also not convinced that the column is original to the truck; it seems to come out awfully far into the cab, and so I'm wondering if maybe we should think about replacing the whole column so he can have tilt, but maybe that's overkill for just a switch.

Thoughts?

If you’re comfortable with removing the steering wheel, once that’s off you need to buy or rent a lock plate depressor.

I’m sure you can find a dozen YouTube videos, while it’s not difficult it does take a little patience. Be gentle with the snap ring that retains the lock plate, it’s pretty easy to stretch it too far.

I did this job on my '75 GMC several years ago, and I don't remember how far you had to tear into it to get to the turn signal switch. I was fixing a broken ignition switch rack and my emergency flasher switch would not stay on, so I replaced both at the same time.

I got the turn switch from Advanced Auto Parts and then found the electrical connector near the bottom of the column did not quite connect up to the new switch (multiple parallel wires and slightly different spacing on the flat connector). I ended up cutting the connector off the original switch and splicing it onto the new switch. Easy to figure out since all the wire colors were the same.
