hey all I had to add about 12" of steel to the back of the frame on my squarebody and now i have no idea where to mount the bumper or if the frame is to long. could somebody help me out with some picks of the rear frame with bumper mount locations and also how far/if the frame rails go out past the bed? i added some pics to show my possible too long frame

someone lopped off the back of the frame because of rust i assume its an 8ft bed fleetside

The frame rails do not stick out past the bed. The bumper mounts reach under the bed to connect to the frame. Ever seen a truck with the rear bumper taken off (like a lowered truck with a rollpan, or even just a crappy truck with no bumper on it)? The frame sure doesn't extend out past the bed. I don't have specific dimensions because it's been a while since I've had a pickup, only got the 'Burb now, but I can say without a doubt the frame should not extend past the bed.

I'd say just measure what you got now, see how far the bumper sticks out past where you want it to be and cut that much off. Then line up the bumper to where you want it and mark the holes to drill. At this point, because you already added material where someone cut it off in the past, it's not like it matters if the holes are in the perfectly current factory location. As long as the bumper lines up right the way it's supposed to/where you want it to go, that's all that matters.

A little close but pretty darn good.

I think design intent is like 1/2" to 1".

It's probably bigger to allow for assembly variation, since in the factory the rear bumper was already attached when the pickup box was set.
