I'd definitely hit up the forum vendor, clkelley, for this! I've used him a couple of times and his prices and product is second to none!! :waytogo:

I`m wondering what kinda caliper brackets did you use ?? The clip on type or the welded type ?

Either one will work. if you don't have access or knowledge for welding, the bolt on will work just fine but if you don't mind laying some beads, then have at it.

Does anyone know ?

Has anyone done this brake conversion yet ?

If so can you supply info on front or rear calipers from the astro van for rear brakes on chevy, any detailed pics, and a complete parts list :hidesbehindsofa:

silly question for us 4x4 guys... would disc setup from a 00 or newer work, those have been 6 lug, my dad's 2000 stepside has them, my 03 stepside had them, but my 06 sierra has drum on the back.

or is the lug pattern different from the 4x4 to the new 6 lug or do i need to next time i get a wheel off try one of my spares (even though they are 17" or 16"s)

New member here chiming in - hopefully someone grabbed photos of doing this as I would love to change mine to rear disc on the cheap.

I'd need to keep the hand brake though.

I think gm has used 6x5.5 for all of its products. As for the rear discs fitting, I would reckon its possible but only with fab work.

I have read this thread and it got me interested in doing my own 6 lug rear disc swap. But I couldn't find any sort of bolt in or weld in caliper mounts to make it happen.

Best bet would be to take the whole rear system, mounts included, from a donor 6 lug Astro or truck. After taking pictures and measurements of caliper position relative to frame, rotor, and axle, design a "mount for a mount" to get it in correct alignment. Then plumb some custom brake lines and add a proportioning valve somewhere....

This all assuming the lug pattern, lug size, and wheel offset are exactly the same. Something tells me it can't be that easy!

Nice website, new member here. Thanks Belowaverage for sharing and starting this post. I don't own a square body yet, waiting for taxes. This is something I wanted to do once I decided to go square body. I remember the PITB drum brakes I had on the camaro....boy they sucked.

So being new to the vehicle and rear ends in general, I guess the mounting plate for the bracket is also required? I didn't notice any mention of it in the original post.

Thanks In Advance

Ok, I have no dog in this fight, but why not use 94-96 Impala ss or Caprice 9C1 rotors calipers and what not for 2WD? They have four wheel discs and 5x5 lug patterns on an 8.5" rearend.

I've been thinking about doing just that. There's a Caprice at the junkyard usually that has them.
