The older cruise control setups get their speed reading from the speedo cable. The mechanical type is inline on the cable and the electronic type in the 80's used the VSS on the back of the speedo. So with both types, if the speedo cable isn't turning to drive the speedo, the cruise won't work either.

If i pull the cable off at the trans and spin it with the drill it should spin the speedo correct?

Yep, with the drill in reverse.

Is your adapter broken? Mine snapped off and that's what kept my be from working. I just screwed into the transfer case. It's 30% low now untill I get a new adapter.

My truck is 2wd lol when i put the trans in it worked very erratic for maybe a week then quit. I pulled the driven gear out an it looks good, pulled the tail and the drive gear looks good too. Idk why it dint work.

Those old school Heartbeat valve covers are cool but not worth that price.

The mods may not allow this based on posting rules...LOL.

I only paid a little more than that for these for my boat motor.
Price included the extra tall covers and engraving which was my own design.
