raising seat height

Hey all,

Question about raising the height of my stock bench seat. I had forgotten just how uncomfortable the driving position is in these trucks lol. I gotta sit with my legs practically spread-eagle to drive this thing because the seat sits so low. I could wear a stovepipe hat in this thing. Anyway, has anybody been able to get the seat height raised by just putting some kind of spacer between the seat and the frame? I'm looking for a way to do this without any metal fab skills or special tools. Or are there quality, USA made aftermarket seat brackets to accomplish this? Thanks!

My brother just put new foam into his truck bench and my hat rubs the ceiling when I sit in it.
I have a long torso and he does not, so he didn't have the same issues.

No brackets that I know of but I helped a friend raise his seat in his 67-72. I believe I used aftermarket transfer case lowering bushings I had laying around. I believe they were aluminum and had a bigger outer diameter than the steel factory bushings.

You could also possibly use skateboard wheels, solid body mounts, etc. Just needs to be wide enough to support and not rock.

Your knees may hit the steering wheel after raising the seat so you may need to:

Add a tilt column
Swap to a shorter column
Smaller diameter steering wheel
Possibly a gas pedal spacer if ergonomics are off or no longer can reach it

I’ll suggest getting new seat foam. That’s like raising the seat.

If I wanted to raise the seat I d make blocks out of square tubing,for the rear for example if I wanted to raise the rear 2 inches. I'd cut 2x2 blocks of square tubing drill one hole in the bottom of the block to bolt to the floor,one hole in the top of the block to bolt the seat down. In the Front I'd bolt 3/16ths strap to the floor overlap my original seat bracket at the height I wanted drill 1 hole to line up with the original bracket hole. Drill a second hole through the original bracket and strap to keep the bracket stable.

Could also experiment with wood to find out what height works for you, then square tubing and/or metal body shims.

Tryna figure out how short you gotta be to need to raise the seat?
Maybe sit on a phone book?
Suppose it could feel low if the seat is completely sacked out. But the solution isn’t to raise the seat. It’s fix the seat.

^^^^^^what Grit says^^^^^^^ I replaced my seat with a fresh foam seat and I bet I sit 4-5" taller in the seat.

Problem isn't that I'm too short, I'm average height 5'10". If I was too short, then I'd need the seet lowered, not raised lol. Looks like I'll be getting some new foam in the seat. And maybe raising it up as well. I have a Flaming River tilt column and a 14" Grant steering wheel coming for it, so that'll take care of those issues. Thanks folks.
