radio wiring surgery

The monster that owned the truck before cut and hacked all of the radio wiring. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to correct the truck radio wiring harness? I plan on some junkyard hopping this weekend if that is your answer.

It’s probably back in there somewhere, but I know it can be daunting. I’ve pulled a mess of wiring out that came from two aftermarket stereos after the original in my car, and a rat could have made a nest out of it in about three seconds. That radio wiring diagram is pretty standard throughout GM vehicles from 77-93. I don’t know if you’ll find an original harness in a junkyard, but they sell them on eBay for a few dollars.

I don’t know if you’ll find an original harness in a junkyard, but they sell them on eBay for a few dollars.

This is what I got. I know it was easier for me to rewire in sections than it would with that all the wires dangling around. I'm sure both would work, though.

I lurk here a lot but I wanted to chime in on this. The PO of my 85 Jimmy hacked the radio harness up so bad I completely rebuilt it. To make future radio swaps easier I used current wire color codes and a vehicle side harness for an 88-2000 GM Truck standard radio harness I bought on amazon. Hope that gives you some help.

If you're planning to go aftermarket then just wire everything from scratch. It shouldnt take long in a single cab truck. You will just need to run a fused power line, find an accessory source and ground it to bare metal, then run speaker wires.
