Radiator

Hi folks,

I need a new radiator, my current one has sprung a leak.

Theres so much choice on RoackAuto I want to make sure I order the right one.

I have an 86 C20 454 with the extra engine and trans coolers and aircon.

Would anyone have a part number for the right model.

I was going to recommend Northern Radiator as they have copper brass direct fit replacements, but I don't know if you can get those in the Netherlands. The northern units are pricey, but they are high efficiency cores. The cores are a little thicker/wider than stock OEM, so the shroud needs to be shave a little, other than that it's remove the old install the new as it should be.

Where's the leak? Pic? How brave are you? Maybe able to save your old radiator, depends on your skill and where the leak is. But at this point you got nothing to lose by trying. If it's in 1 tube cut away enough fin to get to the tube. Cut the tube at the leak. Crimp it shut and solder the exposed ends. I'm assuming original brass/copper radiator.

Go to a car A/C shop, they should be able to repair the radiator. If fixing the leak is not possible Summit has direct fit copper/brass radiators and they ship to Europe.

As closure, in the end I went for a Spectra CU730 from Rockauto.

Fitted perfectly and works great.

It is a plastic radiator (like most modern ones) so I dont expect a massive life expectancy - I am planning to go all aluminium and electirc fans when I up the power in the coming years.

The rad itself looked fine quality wise and fitted perfectly.

So for an 86 454 C20, you need a Spectra CU730 or similar.

If your rubber cushions are in good shape, you should be able to expect many years out of that rad. I have the same one in my LS swapped '85 with dual electric fans mounted on a shroud behind it. It's been great for 4yrs and 43k miles now

Thank you for that information. I bit the bullet and ordered the same radiator for my truck. Will reduce downtime swapping it out for my OEM brass one. I'll take my old one to a shop 2.5 hours away and have them rebuild it for a replacement when it is needed.

My truck is also running waaaay cooler with the new rad.
