I have a few unopened 2000s hygard quarts I have to top off my 2007 and 2004 john deere garden tractors hydrostat trans periodically

I use ATF in mine, John Deere Hygard in the transmission. Hope it doesnt void my warranty lol

Lots of high performance 4l80 builders recommend the Hy Gard fluid for their $5000 race transmissions... just make sure it is the low viscosity variant... regular Hy Gard is ~30 weight oil equivalent and will put a hell of a load on the pump. Low Viscosity is ~10 weight and very similar to ATF viscosity.

I used a brass screen type filter (for the early model TH350) and the regular hygard cut with a couple quarts of Dex 3 so i can see it on the dipstick. The converter I ordered was a little sloppier and this seemed to tighten it up a couple hundred RPM.

I don't think this old GM stuff is picky on fluids as long as it's got something in it lol.

Oh yeah....we're up to 6 pages now lol.

Thought of this thread last night driving the new square home.
PS was whining and turn signals didn’t work. We dropped into the first Vato Zone for juice and a flasher.
But I checked the dipstick first. It was clear/pink. lol. What to do?
Bought PS fluid since only the best for her and it is the stops leaks version! Lol

Sounds like you'll be raising the front end and turning the wheel back and forth from lock to lock while topping off the reservoir and letting the return hose puke the old fluid into a drain pan until you have all fresh fluid in the system.

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL 1980-89 MODELS


Analysis of returned partial gears indicate that some contained automatic transmission fluid. Automatic transmission fluids such as Dexron II are not compatible with steering system seals. Usage of automatic transmission fluid in the steering system can reduce seal life.

Use only power steering fluid that meets requirements of GM Spec. 9985010 such as GMSPO part numbers 1050017 (quart) and 1052884 (pint) in the power steering system. Please make sure all service personnel are advised. This information is contained in the Owner's Manual and Service Manuals.

1994 buick park avenue core support, would not have had the Dexron II or Dexron III as the bulletin above had indicated course change on GM's part. The thing that gets me... is.. GM Power steering fluid (was or is...?) ORANGE?
