Playing with hookers today. 10 out of 10!

I am very excited to see how this turns out for you. I purchased a set of Hooker Manifolds #8525HKR for my 305 to delete the emissions stuff and also plan to use a Magnaflow muffler w/ high flow cat when I redo the exhaust. Hopefully this spring I will get to it, but for now you are giving me a sneak peek.

Found box #2 at my front gate this morning. The last piece of the puzzle. Flowmaster universal tailpipe kit for trucks. Single, 3" mandrel bent, slip-joint kit from Summit. Like $139. No brainer. Fit it, cut it, weld it, done!

Going together like a dream! Got the whole thing mocked up today. Lots of cutting the tailpipe pieces in the kit to get the angle's just right. That kit is awesome. They give you wayyyy more length on each piece than you need. Bending the hanger was a PITA but I got it done. I wanted a modern factory look which requires bending the rod to a 3 inch radius.
The entire exhaust is above the frame rail. You can't see any of it except the tailpipe exit. Lots of room, I love it. Hopefully finish it up tommorow.

Guys in Arizona don’t know how lucky they are, look at how clean the underside of that truck is!!! I would bet there is not a single bolt that couldn’t be remove without twisting off or rounding the head. Northeast guys and gal’s would find it sooo easy working on a desert square. Not that that is an issue probably more wishing my square was so clean.

Just wanted to show you this pic I took today while under the truck. That's the original GM VIN from the factory. Pretty amazing after 37 years.

I think I might order up a set of these aswell before I go and do my y pipe. You did a awesome job on yours. Are you able get a few shots of how close you were able to tuck it up mine hangs down lower then the transfer case and drive me absolutely bonkers. I got one on my phone right now on how badly it hangs down.

My crossover pipe runs diagonally across the bottom of my transmission. It's an NV4500, a big mother! I left a 1/2" gap since the trans and pipes are all one unit basically. However, it's still above the cross member so it's protected and out of sight from any angle outside the truck.

I have to admit it was my first thought when I saw the title to, but as long as you are enjoying your time with your hookers that's all that really matters anyway. And the good news is once you have these hookers setup the way you want them they will stay like that until you get tired of using them.

Worked on this beast most of the day. Got the tailpipe sections cut, welded and the hangers installed. This kit gives you way more tubing length than you need, like 50% more. Cutting and reinstalling is tedious, especially cutting on angled sections. You have to sneak up on it. Sometimes cutting a few inches doesn't only shorten it but raise/lower it at the same time.

Pulled everything out after mockup and tack welding for final welding. Put the manifolds back in with gaskets and then spent and hour trying to get the y-pipe to line up with the manifolds collector flange. WTF! It was 1/4" off and I couldn't muscle it enough to get the bolts in. Then I had an epiphany. I built the y-pipe without the exhaust manifold gaskets installed! Loosened the manifolds and removed the gaskets. Bingo, it lines up. Reinstalled the gaskets and tightened it down. LESSON learned. Each gasket is a heavy 1/8" thick. That spread the collector width 1/4", this being the issue.
I offer a value tip for anyone contemplating installing these manifolds. Take a 2-3 inch 3/8-16 bolt and cut the head off. Then slot the end of the bolt so you can turn it with a flat screwdriver. Screw it into one of the center holes on the head.
When you lower the manifold into place, slip it over the bolt. Then you can get the other bolts started. These are HEAVY! Trying to hold it in place with one hand is virtually impossible. I'll have this wrapped up and fired up tommorow. Thanks for looking.

Done! My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. It sounds great. Subdued, low rumble, almost big block like. Haven't actually put any miles on it because I had to go thru the heat cycles that Hooker recommends for the ceramic coated versions. However, during this exercise I couldn't detect ANY nasty fumes! Amazing that a simple cat can make such a difference. I highly recommend this mod for anyone wanting a great sounding, no odor exhaust system on their square.

A healthy cat really makes a huge difference. I'd really like to hear it to if get around to video or audio recording, but will understand if it's to big of a pain in the a**. Glad you like it!
