Hey Bruce, how do I tell if it is a 2wd box? It is a hydroboost setup. I don't know if it's relevant or not.

I think the 37s on this truck wasted the front axle.

The 37's didn't hurt it. Just lack of maintenance and probably a good and regular application of the skinny pedal.

It's a 2wd box, or at the very least, the sector shaft has been swapped to a 2wd unit. Which then makes it a 2wd box.

Not being an off road guy, what is the purpose behind crossover steering.

From what I gather, it corrects steering geometry.

So here's the deal. It is crossover steering. As I remember now, my M1031 had the stock drag link. I do need the drop pitman arm. When I tried to center the steering wheel after I put the Borgeson steering shaft in it, it makes contact with the crossmember. Here's some pics.

I was looking at ORD's cross steer set up and your's. It looks like you have a dropped pitman arm. Their's is 3 1/2" vs. 1 1/2" for stock. Do you have an "S" bend in the drag link? I can't tell from the pictures. They sell one the prevents interference.

It's the output shaft, or "sector" shaft. The way the pitman arms attach are very different and it's a different spline setup.

Yes, there is an S bend in it. I think because of the 6 in lift, the drag link is on a pretty steep angle. I might need a deeper pitman arm.

This is the explanation of 2WD vs. 4WD steering boxes that I found in the ck5.com forum.
"With a 2wd steering box the pitman arm moves side to side and the 4wd moves front to back. The sector shaft is different which won't allow you to just swap pitman arms. The 4wd box has a through bolt holding the pitman arm onto the sector shaft whereas a 2wd bos uses a nut and washer to hold it on. You need a 2wd steering box if you're doing crossover steering otherwise the 2wd box won't work unless you install a 4wd sector shaft. I believe the year difference for the fitting change was 1980 and earlier for the flare fitting hose and 1981 and later for the metric O-ring style hose."
