aint no law in bc like that, and just so you know mr smarty pants, the bulbs that came with his headlights are H13-9008, DOT all the way.
maybe ask or do your homework before throwing out bs "dangerous" crap.

and upgrading his lights is a safety feature, you have obviously never driven a firebird, 4x6 sealed beams blow. at least now he can see the road. a pair of 2 d cell flashlights taped to the hood would throw more light than his stockers.

I was looking to upgrade my headlights to LEDs and ordered a set off of Amazon.
Once they arrived it became immediately clear that they won't even come close to fitting in the factory buckets.

What are my options for an LED upgrade?
I have seen the LMC and Hella h4 options, but these aren't what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance for your help.
You got the headlights for the 81-87 4-headlight system instead.

My wife gets bright-lighted constantly in her '21 Trailblazer when she has them on low beam, or when they're on the auto-dim setting. The new LED's are super-bright for sure. What p*sses me off is when truckers do it when they have 75-100 lights on their truck and their seat height is about 3 feet higher than most cars. Back to the 4-headlight halogen topic, I've always had good lighting when using Sylvania Halogens in either my SB's or my Monte's with the same lights.

Oh, this might be what I've been looking for - thanks! I've got these oddball-sized headlights on my '90 Blazer, and have only been able to find one source so far, which is these: https://genssi.com/h4701-h4703-sealed-beam-led-replacement-headlights-2-pack/

However, I like the looks of these better, since they appear OE, and not with all that sci-fi digi-tronics looking stuff in there.
Thanks for that link to the genssi units. I reckon they could be made to look alright on the 89-91 burbs. I might try and give them a go on mine as I do need to replace a couple of my lights anyway

I have a round eye truck and thanks to Jeeps, I have tons of options.
Currently using Jeep takeoff housings and some Sylvania lights.
LED's will be next.
Jeep buckets, you say? Hmmmm

Yes sir.
These were found at the local thrift store in the Hella boxes that I would believe to have replaced them.
For $8 each housing and bulb, they are a great upgrade.
I also had to source a conversion for the wiring, which is readily made and findable on the interwebs.
Those weren't terribly expensive either.

Junior put them in when he had a headlight out and they are much better than the sealed beams they replaced.

Back in high school, I made a pair of smoked plexiglass headlight covers for my dad's '79, they matched his smoked bug shield! They fit right into that recess & used the bezel screws to hold them on. It was a bad-azz looking square!

(skipping specifics of previous posts but adding hopefully some useful information)

Headlights are generally regulated by power, which was fine when everything was halogen based, 55w is more than 50w, etc. Essentially all lights were the same temperature/color, and wattage was defined by bulb style and law, and light output was defined by the cut and quality of the lens housing, and how well they put useful light into the places it is needed.

Enter other light types a while back... Projector headlights do a much better job of focusing light into those useful places, then also allowed for new style HID bulbs that are inherently incompatible with reflector housings. The shape of the bulb is different, and comes from a much larger point which doesn't work (effectively) with reflectors. LED's are much of the same story, when done right, they can put light where needed more effectively, but poorly applied into reflector housings just scatters light and don't focus it well. Again, this is just simple physics from the size and location of the light source. Both of these light technologies also produce a higher amount of light for a given input power, so the old standard "55W" is now meaningless, and can produce 2-3x the lumen output. Regulators were were slow to respond and still have not responded appropriately.

At the same time, colors started shifting bluer. Blue light shows more detail, and allows better visual acuity by shrinking your pupil and sharpening the picture for you. Unfortunately, now you are able to absorb less light from other areas (i.e. ambient light), meaning that with blue headlights, the driver of that vehicle can generally see better/more detail in the area covered by the headlights, but areas not covered by the headlights are now darker because the eye can't pick up the ambient light as well.
Folks outside the vehicle now have a source of blue light that is shrinking their pupils as well, limiting how much light they are able to process including from their own (halogen?) headlights. As long as that source of light is visible, it impacts the ability to see off-axis and ambient areas. Poorly aimed blue lights makes all of this worse, and essentially any LED or HID "Retrofit" in a reflector housing CANNOT be aimed and focused properly, but projector or proper LED lenses absolutely CAN be focused and aimed right, if designed properly, and not always as a pure function of price. Generally you get what you pay for, but not always.

Best bet? Everyone go back to yellow style lights, get rid of the blue color street lights, and reclaim natural night vision.
Realistically? If you can't beat them, join them, and get high quality modern lights (still don't go 5000-6000k, stay under 4000k or 3000k if at all possible) in any vehicle you frequently drive in nighttime traffic. Retrofit HID/LED bulbs don't count unless you have projectors or proper lenses.

I always loved the e-code (euro) cut glass lamps. They were made with both drivers and pedestrians in mind, so the light shined low and wide. Brights were still wide but further down the actual road - without lighting up the oncoming driver's face. I could have my brights on - see just fine - and no one would flash me.

Cibie was the absolute best, but aren't made anymore (iirc there is a company in Belgium making a knock off thats darn close). I bought the 4 lamp Hellas with the H4 bulbs. Either the highs or the lows are now discontinued - which makes no sense. There was a seller solely on Amazon that still had some in stock.

This is an interesting site - there was a time this guy could find you anything you needed. I think he sold alot of product anyways.
