Pinion seal question

Bro...the grass!

It’s pretty easy. There are some good youtoobs. You’ll need an impact, a big socket(mine was 1-1/2”), a puller tool(like a harbor freight special with different sized bolts), a seal puller is nice, a block or wood and a hammer. A marker or chisel punch are helpful too.

Interesting. Never had a need for such a thing before. But good to know.

So have you installed ujoints that were a little tight and been fine?

I’d like to get this stuff put back together after work.

After I install u joints I always give the top of the “hoop” part a little tap with a hammer. Sometimes the hoop gets bent inward a little with the force of pressing them in and the tap relieves the pressure and the u joints usually move more freely after that

No. As I said, once I got the clips in I pressed the caps back out to seat them against the clips and they've always moved freely but without any significant play. Maybe I've been lucky, but it's never been an issue.

Not that im aware. Does the pinion need to come out to do the seal?

After disconnecting the driveshaft; only the pinion nut, washer and yoke need to come out to see the seal.

Rather than over analyze the whole thing I started over.

I pulled my ujoints back out and pressed them in just until the clip was about to seat, then finished with light taps with a brass dowel until they barely clicked out.

Problem solved. Thanks for the help.

Is it possible that the yolk is separating from the rear somehow? Does the gap look normal?

Crappy picture but does any know if the gap between the pinion and rear looks way too big??

It just looks like the protector ring is tweaked.

If the gap was actually to big, the yoke would be flopping all over the place.
