Paint preparation

I’m getting old and my hands aren’t what they used to be.

I’m just dinking around, wanting to paint some parts, but I don’t have the hand strength to wire brush them clean anymore.

I can use the orbital sander for smooth parts, but does anybody have any suggestions for odd shaped parts, like an Air cleaner housing.

I assume there’s some kind of chemical out there that will clean down to bare metal.

We used to use some industrial nasty **** in the Navy called aircraft remover, but that stuff‘s pretty wicked.

Anything less horrible out there? Lol

Chemical paint strippers are all garbage now a days. Sand blaster would work for odd shape stuff. Large flat areas I've been using a heat gun and a long handled razor blade, works great

beg to differ @DanMcG but the Citristrip stuff they sell at Lowes has done me well over the past few months. Put it on thick and put plastic over it so it doesn't dry. Come back in 24 hours.....you'd be surprised how much it stripped. Ton's of paint layers I'm sure will make a difference, but I was extremely happy with the labor it saved me.....and it's cheap.

Light gauge wire wheel on an angle grinder. That's what I use for everything. Works great for stripping paint and checking light rust, and can get in some pretty tight nooks and crannies.

the Citristrip stuff they sell at Lowes has done me well over the past few months.

I still have the better part of a jug of Citristrip, It wouldn't touch the paint on a few parts I tried. Might have been the type of paint.
